There were also fans that started lining up two days before the official ticket sale date - their dedication to their idols can be clearly seen through this act.

[NEWS] Various idols rated by their acting skill

Nowadays, it’s quite difficult to find a drama without an idol star in it. Thus a new term was coined: ‘actingdol’. Of course, idol stars are a good way to bring in decent ratings. However, these idols also are closely scrutinized and criticized for their lack of acting ability.

Sports Seoul gathered 3 Content Producers from the major broadcast channels in addition to various film industry representatives to determine which ‘actingdols’ were the best, according to acting ability, potential growth, and drama ratings. The males who came out on top were Lee Seung Gi and Micky Yoochun. Out of the females, Nam Gyuri did the best.

Lee Seung Gi and Micky Yoochun – Acting Ability. Box-Office hit. 1st and 2nd Place.

Through SBS ‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho‘, Lee Seung Gi came out on top and got the highest rating for acting ability (4.2/5) . Yoochun’s debut drama was KBS2 ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, where he managed a rating of ‘4′ for his first attempt at acting. Also, SBS ‘You’re Beautiful‘’s Lee Hongki (FT Island) received a rating of 3.4 while SBS ‘Oh My Lady‘’s Choi Siwon (Super Junior) received a 3.2 rating. Nam Gyuri was rated 3.4 for her role in SBS ‘Life is Beautiful’.

KBS CP Moon Bohyun, stated, “I like Micky Yoochun because he’s not a regular flower boy. Although he lacks in acting experience, one can still see his charisma as an actor.”

Non Yoochun related is omitted~!

[NEWS] Micky’s challenge: from idol to actor

Transforming from an idol to an actor can be tricky.
Not only does it require superb acting skills to wash away that idol image, but he or she must go through worries, criticism and also harsh self-discipline. Amid the numerous crossovers of young and determined stars, a particularly famous one is aiming to captivate viewers with his never-before-seen acting.
Dressed in “hanbok,’’ or traditional Korean clothes, TVXQ member Micky (real name Park Yoo-chun) looked proud, yet a bit nervous to represent his first–ever drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal’’ at a press conference held at the W Hotel, northern Seoul, last week.
The doll-faced 24-year-old will appear as Lee Sun-jun in the period drama and work with fellow actors Park Min-young, Song Joong-ki and Yoo Ah-in.
The soap is a “campus romance drama,’’ according to the production company, and will bring Korean history, comedy and romance to the small screen.
Korean period dramas have not only been popular here, but also overseas, and they tend to have certain patterns: traditional dress, ancient Korean vernacular, love triangles, and the inner struggle between personal goals and traditional traits.

“Sungkyunkwan Scandal’’ is no different. The heroine Kim Yoon-hee, played by Park Min-young, has been responsible for her household after her father died and brother became ill in the busy times of the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910). She decides that the only way for her to not worry about food and money is to disguise herself as a man and try for the state examination and become a court official.
She enters Sungkyunkwan, or a Confucian Academy, to study and meets fellow classmates: the strict and handsome Sun-jun, the playboy Koo Yong-ha (played by Song) and the rough and wild Moon Jae-shin (played by Yoo).
The journey begins as Kim, a pretty-faced student in disguise, struggles to fulfill her dream to become an official and hopefully discover true love along the way.
The biggest concern is not the familiar storyline or good looking stars dressed in colorful hanbok, but the acting. The four main actors are relatively young ― all are 24 except for the 25-year-old Song ― and have not made lasting impressions in their acting careers as yet. Additionally, period dramas are known to be especially tricky due to the old-fashioned dialect and behavior.
Despite these worries, the drama’s producer Kim Won-suk expressed his confidence in working with the young actors, especially Park Yoo-chun.
“Park was already on the team when I decided to helm the drama. But if I had the chance to pick the actors again, I would have picked him. I know many people are looking forward to, and are also worried about his acting, but I can tell you all that he is doing great,’’ Kim said.
Park also had to deal with the interest and pressure put on him, though he did a pretty good job in keeping a straight face and calmly answering questions regarding his lack of acting experience.
“Of course, being my first work and all, I thought about my acting a lot. I think this was a chance where I discovered a new me. The staff were generous enough to pick me for the role,’’ he said smiling.
“I have been dancing for a long time, and I had a pretty tough time realizing that the martial arts sequences were not to be shown as choreography. I have been immersed in the drama and although it’s been tough with the weather and the bugs, it’s been fun,’’ Park added.
It was hard not to notice the enormous interest showering the star. Even the press conference was a bit overdone. The event seemed to have lost its true purpose and turned into a promotional circus. It included two fashion shows; one by 2009, 2010 Miss Korea contestants and models and another by the actors themselves. The hanbok display was, indeed colorful and beautiful, but there was nothing different from those seen in previous and even current historical series.
A preview screening is one of the most important channels that uncovers the gist of the drama and also help the press understand the storyline easier and faster. The 8-minute highlight video was not enough to bring out the overall vibe of the work. It took an hour and a half to finally bring out the actors and producer to the table for a Q and A session.
Micky was introduced as “Park Yoo-chun’’ from start to finish, probably because he really wants to turn over a new leaf. The TVXQ member may have found it interesting to discover the actor within, but it will take a bit more than generosity and soul searching to spearhead a full-length drama, especially when all eyes are on him. Will he be able to shine in the spotlight? Fans will find out on Aug. 30 at 9:55 p.m.

[Info] 100803 Netizens Select the Idols Who Best Resemble Comic Book Characters

A website recently asked its visitors to name the idols whom they believed look most like they had just walked out of a comic. The results, while very varied and surprising, were definitely quite interesting!
In 10th place was FT Island’s Lee Hongki. Maybe it was his long golden locks of hair and pretty-boy looks that did the trick?
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Right before Lee Hongki came 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon. The beastly idol is known not only for his masculine appearance but his OkCat drawings as well, which have been able to make many a fan laugh in amusement.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Super Junior’s Cho Kyuhyun came in eighth place. I don’t know about comic books, but I’m sure Kyuhyun would be more than happy to have a video game character made from his looks!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Kim Hyungjoon of SS501 and Minho of SHINee were right ahead of Kyuhyun, as they were given the titles for seventh and sixth place respectively.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Choi Siwon of Super Junior came in fifth place. The idol is known for his ‘Shibrows,’ which often seem to have a personality of their own.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
In fourth place was Big Bang’s GDragon, who is known for his sense of style and outrageous hairdos. Although some might call his various hairstyles examples of hairdon’ts, it looks like his unique sense of fashion gave him quite a boost in this survey!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Kim Hyunjoong of SS501 received third place in this survey. Between him and Lee Hongki, it looks like Asia really has a thing for Korean pretty boys!
Continuing on with the pretty boy trend, Super Junior’s Kim Heechul received second place. His eccentric personality and large, expressive eyes were probably a few deciding factors which allowed him to receive so many votes.

And for first place…can you guess who made it? It’s none other than TVXQ’s Kim Junsu!

Were these results accurate enough for you?

[TRANS] 100727 “Idol Rivals” Kim Hyunjoong vs Yoochun – Acting Battle

“Idol Rivals” SS501’s Kim Hyunjoong and TVXQ’s Micky Yoochun will be moving their battle of pride from the dance stage to the television drama stage.
SS501’s Kim Hyungjoon will be starring in MBC’s new Weds/Thurs drama, coming back to the acting stage with “Accidental Kiss” (Starting 1 September,) and TVXQ member Micky Yoochun will be transforming into an actor in the KBS2 Mon/Tues drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” (Starting 30 August) With a change of management companies and their group’s continued future still unknown, both members are re-establishing themselves via acting, and have attracted much attention with their new starts.
So far, Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun have been rivals on the musical arena. Both SS501 and TVXQ are considered as top idol groups, and have been engaged in friendly competition since their debut. Especially since both groups are made of 5 people, and enjoy widespread popularity not just in Korea but in Asia, they are often compared against each other.
Both men, not as singers but as actors, will be battling it out head on again, and this has resulted in much attention. Especially since “Accidental Kiss” and “SungKyunKwan Scandal” are the first starring roles for both Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun, representatives of the younger generation, and since both their dramas will be airing at the same time, the battle between the two continues to heat up.
As actors, Kim Hyunjoong has a slight edge over Micky Yoochun. Doing well as “Jihoo Sunbae” in “Boys before Flowers”, he has proven his star power. However, there is always room for improvement. In “Boys before Flowers”, it was noted that he was slightly awkward with pronunciation and expression, and these are the key points he needs to work on. As a 180 degree change in character from that of “Boys before Flowers,” how to express this is probably his main concern. In “Boys before Flowers,” Jihoo Sunbae’s character was “soft,” but in this role, he has to act out the disinterested, cold charm of the character.
While watching the previous Japanese and Taiwanese versions, more than wondering about which character Kim Hyunjoong should be expressing, there high expectations on whether this drama can be a hit or not, so Kim Hyunjoong’s burden is heavy. Similarly, “SungKyunKwan Scandal’s” Micky Yoochun is facing a lot of pressure. Micky Yoochun’s abilities are already recognized in the music industry, but is still a rookie in the acting arena. The actor Micky Yoochun, is showing a totally different side from his strong, soft image in TVXQ. In “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” Micky Yoochun plays the role of Lee Seon Joon, who does not lack in brains, money or looks, the perfect man.
Fans of the original novel either say that the casting of Micky Yoochun for the role, is the “best casting” or that he “totally does not match the role.” And there have been many discussions with opinions divided. Because of this, the first acting challenge for Micky Yoochun and how he expresses this character has become a great concern. Rivals and colleagues in the music industry, and now battling it out for victory as actors, we anticipate the drama showdown between Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun.

[Trans] 100720 Now Is The Male Idols Generation

Male idols continue to compete against one another and challenge female idols like SNSD, KARA and 4minute in the music industry and on variety programmes.
On 31 July, 7pm, 2PM and C.N.Blue will each hold their concert. 2PM and C.N.Blue will be holding their first solo concert since their debut in Seoul Olympic Stadium and AX-Korea respectively. On 18 July, C.N.Blue’s leader, Jung Yonghwa, said, “Our concert date clashed with the 2PM-hyungs’. We’re currently rehearsing.”
Ex-member of 2PM, Jaebeom, and TVXQ’s Micky Yoochun, Xiah Junsu, Youngwoong Jaejong, who are in the middle of a lawsuit with their management company SM Entertainment, will be holding fanmeetings. Jaebeom will be holding his fanmeeting on 28 August at Hwajeong Tiger Dome located in Seoul Korea University, kick-starting his solo activities. A representative from Sidus HQ said, “Jaebeom said that the reason he chose Sidus HQ as his management company was to be able to develop his acting, and we’re now in discussions regarding the contract for his participation in SBS’ [Secret Garden].”
Ultimately, only 3 members of TVXQ will be meeting with their fans through the fanmeeting event organized by Lotte Duty Free – their first public stage in Korea. A representative from Lotte Duty Free said, “We are expecting many fans from Japan and other countries to visit Korea in order to meet these 3 members. We are currently in the process of confirming the number of participants and adjusting the schedule.”

If Jaebeom participates in SBS’ [Secret Garden], set to air in September, he will be meeting Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun head on in a battle of dramas. Micky Yoochun will play the lead, Lee Seon Joon, for KBS2′s new drama [SungKyunKwan Scandal], which is set to air on 30 August. Kim Hyunjoong, who has recently moved over to the same management company as Bae Yongjoon, will once again showcase his acting in a new drama that he has undertaken. Kim Hyunjoong will be starring as the lead in the drama [Mischievous Kiss], set to air on 1 September.
A staff from a drama production company said, “When an idol star participates in a drama, the awareness of the drama is drastically increased and you can also capture the audience who are aged between 10-20 years old. This point in itself, is very advantageous.” Also, “When under similar conditions, this is the reason why we use idol members.”

[TRANS] 100709 You Should Know?! Jejung Bible

Bright and beautiful voice, taps on the soul of the listeners
As the main singer of Tohoshinki, not only does Jejung have a bright voice that attracts countless fans, his beautiful appearance has been Tohoshinki’s “facade”, always being the center of attention. As an artist or as an idol, Jejung, who has always received the support of many, can be counted as a perfect celebrity. But, this Jejung also has a never-ending supply of commentary and a humorous side. With such a contrast, this has also become part of his charisma, tightly clasping onto the hearts of women and never leaving.
You Should Know?! Jejung Bible
Growth: A mischievous teen growing up in his family
As the youngest of a big family with 8 older sisters, Jejung has always been the “mischievous” child. In order to achieve his dream of being a singer while not being a burden on his family, he started working scattered jobs to obtain his living expenses at a young age. No matter how poor or hard his life was, he continued advancing towards a stage just for himself.
Personality: An innate child of humor and cordiality
With just one look, there will be a feeling of “this kid is really cool”, but actually, he will have a side that loves to talk and joke around.
Artistic: Continues working hard, with top-notch singer as target
A bright, high voice is Jejung’s charisma. When he was young, he was ridiculed as being tone-deaf by his friends, so he never stopped practicing until he finally became the lead vocal of Asia’s top group. Recently, he has continued with unabated composing and writing of lyrics.
Personal Life: Friends in Japan he can also have drinks with
Publicly known to be the best drinker in Tohoshinki, it has been said that Jejung frequently goes out for drink with friends after work ends. Although he is always in Japan, because of his handsome personality, he already has a lot of close acting and artist friends. The scene of him and his friends out for a casual drink has been witnessed several times.
A Surprising Side: The Hercules amongst the members
Jejung, with his androgynous look, his “favorite emoticons when texting”, his “shyness that makes him cover his mouth with his hand”, and his “specialty in cooking”, etc., it appears as if he has lost a little bit of his masculinity. However, he has the most strength in his wrists and arms amongst the members. The beautiful face that can crush an apple with his hands… hard to imagine?!
