I'm also very thankful towards EMK's representative, Um Hong Hyun, along with all the crew, and the entire cast of "Mozart!". I'm also extremely grateful to Park Eun Tae, who has always been guiding me when I knew nothing about musicals then. I hesitated when I first received the proposal for the musical, partly due to the existing problems that shrouded DBSK, but I'm really grateful to CJeS' representative, Baek, who has given me a lot of support and courage, and also to Mr Levay."

Kim Junsu & Jung Seon Ah Wins Popularity Award

Both Kim Junsu and Jung Seon Ah have respectively won the popularity award in the recent 16th Korea Musical Awards for their roles in the musical "Mozart!".

Upon receiving the reward, Kim Junsu said, "there is still a lot of room for improvement, but to be able to win two awards, I really do not know how to express my gratitude. Moreover, as the audience's votes had a huge part to play in this award, I'm even more grateful. In order to live up to the expectation of this award, I will work even harder if I am given the opportunity to take part in future productions, thank you."

The first performance of the 'Kim Junsu Musical Concert -Levay With Friends' was completely sold out in 20 minutes and once again showed off the ticket of power of Kim Junsu (Xiah Junsu).

According to EMK Musical, "When the tickets were released on reservation site Interpark at 9pm on the 1st, all the floor seats were sold out in 90 seconds and then all the rest of the seats were sold out in 20 minutes." It was said later that the large influx of fans also caused the server to crash, which caused great confusion.

This concert, which began when Mozart!'s composer Sylvester Levay gave Kim Junsu a love call, is said to be a high quality performance with the composer himself participating actively by conducting the orchestra and playing the piano.

EMK Musical said, "As there aren't many opportunities to hold a musical concert at the Sports Stadium, the biggest concert arena in Korea, we will create a performance that will appeal to the masses and introduce those who are unfamiliar with musicals to the genre."

Many have their attention focused on Kim Junsu, who has been praised for his possibilities as a musical actor, and he will be joined by top musical actors such as Shin Young Suk, Bae Hae Sun, Park Eun Tae and Jung Seon Ah.

[TRANS] 100709 Xiah Junsu on KBS Joy TV News – Musical "Mozart!"

Brief translation - please note that this video has many cuts

Title: How skilled idols have to be to start in a musical?

Question: Are the last musicals with idols receiving the highest rating?
Won JungWon – Suncheon National Univ. Professor, Journalism Dep. – Musical Critic
The most succesfull example is Mozart with Xiah Junsu whose singing is very good but he also gives a great feeling looking at him on stage. If you received a lot of love, then on stage, you create/produce really mature/perfect things (performance).

Yu HuiSeong – Musicals “Mozart – Passing Rain – Midnight Sun” producers.
At least to some extent, (In the case of idols) all the acting, the dancing, the singing they do and what friends think, actually auditions are still a way to verify (the skills level).

Title: Idols didn’t not receive good praising for the acting. (cut?)

Casting an idol.
YHS: Casting idols group is the main reason of the great popularity and also due to this popularity among friends, I’m availabe to work much more (with them). It has a good effect/influence. I think we will pay (the idols) higher to take a role if it’s necessary. I think it’s no a big problem once they provide a such ticket selling power.

Question: How is the actual salary of idols?
YHS: SeungRi (Big Bang), TaeYeon (SNSD), JaeJin (FT Island) musical actors got almost the same. But I believe that only Xiah Junsu got a little higher than I thought.

[TRANS] 100626 GQ July Issue – Interview with Lee Jung Mi (Who Played Mrs Weber in Mozart!)

Q. How do you find Xiah Junsu, having performed in the musical “Mozart!” together with him?

- He is really excellent. There are four main lead actors for “Mozart”, and amongst the four of them, he was the first to have memorized the lines, the actions and the lyrics. He was very hardworking during the rehearsals, and he always had this determination to want to give his best. A few days ago I heard he won the best newcomer award in “The Musical Awards”, and I was worried that people who have not seen him performed would say that “it was an award won based on popularity”. In the musical I play the role that antagonizes Mozart, but because (Junsu) was so outstanding in his acting, I even felt apologetic about having to oppose him. I told him before, that I hope he will continue doing this, and he himself also expressed that he wishes to carry on performing in musicals.

[TRANS] 100625 'Musicaldols' How Far Have They Come? with Lee Gyung Mi

You appeared in Mozart! with Xiah Junsu. How was he?
He did really well. Out of the four people who played the lead role in, he was the first to memorize all of his lines, blocking and lyrics. He would work hard during rehearsals and he had a strong foundation of determination to work off of. A couple of days ago, I heard that he won the Best Male Newcomer Award for 'The Musical Awards', and I worried that people who hadn't seen his shows properly would devalue his achievement and call it 'an award that caters to popularity'. My role (Mrs. Weber) was a villain who torments Mozart, but his acting was so good that I felt bad for tormenting him. I told him that I wanted him to keep acting. He himself said that he wants to keep doing musicals.

Are all idol stars like that?
Not at all. Aside from Xiah Junsu, I heard that Yesung from NamHanSanSung worked very hard as well. I also heard that Daesung and Seungri did well in Cats and Rain Shower respectively. I heard that although Jessica was lacking in preparation time, she had a desire to perform in the musical. These are the most unfortunate cases; they have plenty of drive, but lack the necessary circumstances to succeed.

It seems that not many idol stars appear in licensed musicals. Cats, Mozart, and Legally Blonde seem to be it? Why is that?
With big productions, foreign staff from overseas come for the audition process. People are never cast just because they are idol stars in these situations. Therefore, there is a chance that idol stars may not get the part. So entertainment agencies usually don't let the idol stars audition in the first place because of this.

[Trans] 100609 The Story Of “Mozart!” And The Award Winners

Best Female Supporting Actress – Shen Young Soo (Baroness)
Best Male Newcomer – Kim Junsu (Mozart)
Popularity Award – Kim Junsu (Mozart), Jung Seon Ah (Constance)

2010.06.07 Met Mozart again at the Sejong Cultural Center Theater!

The musical that reignited the entire musical world in the first half of 2010, “Mozart!”, having had its last goodbye performance in Ansan a short while back, came back together for a special performance in the “4th The Musical Awards”. After having not seen each other for a while, the actors and actresses finally met once again, and they were filled with happiness. In order to give encouragement to the respective nominees, a lot of the audience came for the award ceremony.

Seo Pan Hee, the other actor of the musical, along with all the crew who have provided much help, the crew members of Yehn Hong Kwan planning agency, and Kim Junsu’s parents all gathered at the Sejong Culture Center Theater today for the event.

The award ceremony finally commenced! All the works that received a lot of love from the audience were featured one by one on the stage along with the award presentation for the actors, working crews and best works. Kim Junsu, who became Mozart again began to feel nervous~

“Mozart!” won awards for Best Female Supporting Actress, Best Male Newcomer, Male and Female Popularity Awards. Even though the results were slightly disappointing, each time the word “Mo” of “Mozart!” appeared, however, the entire audience would give its loudest cheers and applause, and that moved us deeper than getting an award.

It was time for a gathering after the end of the award presentation.

In order to celebrate Kim Junsu’s, Shen Young Soo’s and Jung Seon Ah’s win, and also to thank all the actors for the perfect performance they have put up for the audience, we gathered for a small celebration after the award ceremony, which only ended at dawn.

From the preparation stages to the actual performances to the final closing curtain, the representatives of EMK have been working tirelessly…composer Ryoo Hee Seong, who was strict at times, would also take good care of the actors…Lee Ryeon Young, our dance instructor and Han Jung Ahn, our costume designer, who both left a deep impression on everyone for the dance moves and elegant costumes…and best newcomer Kim Junsu, who first went to Kang Nam for an event by the award sponsor before coming down to the venue of gathering…

Park Gun Hyung, our MC host for tonight…the other hero of our performance Park Eun Tae… Seo Pan Hee, who has been laughing with “Mozart!” from the start to the end of the award ceremony…Shen Young Soo, who cried while receiving her award, and for wanting South Korea to remember her as the actress Shen Young Soo rather than “Young Soo”…most popular actress Jung Seon Ah…Woo Man Suk, who joined other events before joining us at the “Mozart!” gathering…Yun Jung Eh, who constantly brought laughter to us by displaying his sense of humour during the performances…also, to all the managers and crews who constantly were at their back, left and right in order to help them shine brighter…everyone sat around and chatted to their hearts’ content, and nobody left even thought it went way past midnight.

“Every time our actors received an award, they would mention ‘EMK’, we are really grateful. We will definitely find a way to repay all the actors, actresses and crew.” – Yehn Hong Kwan Representative

“I was afraid I would forget all the difficult lines during the performance, so even up till now I would memorize them from time to time. Currently, I have also been listening to the musical’s CD often.” – Kim Junsu

“When Junsu first came to join us for practice after his return from Australia, he only used two days to memorize all the actions and lines, and it was indeed very shocking. That moment completely changed my preconception of him.” – Shen Young Soo

“I didn’t really like EMK initially, but now I like it a lot.” – Jung Seon Ah

We were once filled with worries when faced with the initial challenges of bringing in the musical “Mozart!” locally for the Korean audience, but thanks to everyone’s passion and support, we have achieved a massive success. Once again, we would like to extend our thanks to everyone, do keep a lookout for a re-make of “Mozart!”

[TRANS] 100228 Junsu's Concerns About Acting in 'Mozart!'

Kim Junsu, who portrayed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, had his concerns about his musical debut, and at the same time, had his share of worries regarding his idol status.

An interview withMozart!'s musical production company, EMK representative Eom Hong Hyun

Austrian musical Mozart!has debuted in South Korea. This musical also marks TVXQ Xiah Junsu's debut stage as a musical actor, garnering much attention as this is a modern masterpiece and a widely-publicised musical. Because of this, it attracted many people who are either still in their teens or in their twenties, an age which doesn’t care much about musicals, thus widening the audience range.

(omitted)

While talking about the musical Mozart!, Xiah Junsu is a topic which cannot be left unmentioned. Being the musical's producer, what kind of comments would he give Xiah Junsu for his debut musical stage?

"Kim Junsu outshines any idol in areas like singing, acting and expressing himself. Even if we were to comment only on his first performance of the musical, his is definitely better than average. I can also say this with confidence that the tacit between him and the audience is better than any musical actor’s."

"Though there was only a short period of time to train, he could use his emotions, his singing and his acting abilities to express up to this point. This definitely shocked me and all of the musical staff. I believe that he will definitely become a very outstanding musical actor."

From Xiah Junsu's "sense of achievement" after his debut performance to preparation for the first half of 2010's public production

Being involved in such a big production, whether or not to challenge his first musical stage was a difficult choice for Xiah Junsu. From the views of the production team, his decision is more than just burden; it was more of a challenge.

"He is already a big star, with many performing experiences, singing on a huge stage. With his strong abilities as someone who has been training for a long time, I have a lot of confidence in him. Therefore, most of his fans gave comments by viewing him as a very outstanding singer instead of an idol. This proved his capabilities." After seeing that his debut musical performance was so much better than the expectations, it simply told him that he made the right decision.

His praises for Xiah Junsu continues. "Unlike musical actors, Kim Junsu attracts his audience with his own unique way of acting Mozart naturally. Junsu also couldn’t differentiate whether Mozart is him or vice versa. Without overdoing his role, he was able to bring the audience the most surreal stage."

Even with Mozart!'s great success, there are still negative views on musicals using idols' status to promote. This had Representative Eom in thise censure.

"There are those who only choose actors without considering the whole musical's production, and picked ones who don’t have much ability. There are many artises who are active in every area. In reality, there are many people who became better stars, and received better comments."

Indeed.

Representative Eom also mentioned, "Kim Junsu is the most outstanding singer and the best actor we've chosen." He also emphasized that "If the next actor is not a normal idol, but someone who, like Kim Junsu, has singing and dancing talents, we are more than happy to welcome him to join the next production."

" We are currently preparing for next year's public performance. Up until then, please look forward to a better Mozart!"

[FANACCNT] 100306 Lucky encounter with Yoochun in Daegu!

Since Junsu shouted out Yoochun's name out of the blue,
everyone guessed he was present.

A Korean fan account later proved that to be true.

NOTE: This photo is not recent. It's only added to add more sparks to the Yoosu love :}

At 11am, she was in a restaurant eating
The restaurant was closed to where Xiahzart was to be performed at
When they arrived there weren’t a lot of people,
right when her and her friends were really getting into a conversation,
a guy walked in and sat at a seat by the window.

Then, after 2-3 minutes, another person came in
Surprisingly, with one glance
It was Yoochun oppa
She was dumbfounded, couldn’t talk, she was excited to the point that she was about to cry,
her friend turned around and saw Yoochun oppa,
she was so shocked that she screamed out loud.
Yoochun look at them for a second and then sat by the guy that came in earlier.

After a little bit
She got out a notebook and went over to Yoochun with her friend
Tears was about to come out
They walked up to Yoochun and said
“Oppa, I am a Cassiopeian, can I have your autograph?”

Yoochun said okay
Took the pen she had gave her his autograph
His hand was super pretty

Just so happens, she had tickets to see Xiahzart in her hands
When Yoochun saw, he said
“Did you come to to see Mozart today?”

She said “Yes~!!”
Yoochun Oppa: Oh, I’m going to watch later too~

She thought Yoochun oppa was going to watch the 3:00PM one so she shouted in excitement
“3:00PM one?? Mine is at 3:00!!”

Yoochun oppa only smiled and didn’t answer

The guy that sat in front of Yoochun… scary

… When Yoochun oppa returned the notebook and pen to her
their hands touched

Then on, she returned to her seat and pretended to eat
but she observed Yoochun oppa through the mirror the entire time

When Yoochun finished eating, they all left together

Yoochun told her
You can look straight at me, why look through the mirror

She said
“I would be embarrassed”

Yoochun said “Its okay~”
After this, he crossed the street and left in a car

I am always envious of the people who write these fan accounts.
They get to see them, sometimes talk to them, and those that are lucky, even get an autograph and touch them!
*sigh* I wonder when I get that chance.
For now, I can only dream.
